How is phonics taught at Francis Baily?
At Francis Baily we use the phonics scheme Letters and Sounds throughout the school, as well as using the song, with matching pictures and actions from Song of Sounds. Across the school we have a consistent approach to phonics with daily sessions which run for 20 minutes 5 times a week. All sessions use the same teaching sequence - Revisit/Review, Teach, Practise and Apply.
At the end of Year One children will complete a phonics check. For those children who do not pass the phonics check in Year One then this is also repeated at the end of Year Two. Phonics can be continued into Key Stage Two for children requiring additional support to secure their learning and sessions would follow the same teaching sequence.
