Remote Learning

At Francis Baily Primary School, we are committed to ensuring that all children can continue their learning if they are unable to attend school in person. Our remote learning provision reflects the same high standards as our classroom teaching and follows the school curriculum as closely as possible.

This page sets out what families can expect during any period of remote education.

Our Aims

During any period of remote learning, we aim to:

  • Maintain access to a high-quality, age-appropriate curriculum
  • Keep communication between school and home strong
  • Support pupil wellbeing, motivation and engagement
  • Ensure children can make progress in line with their peers.

What Remote Learning Looks Like

Where pupils are required to learn from home, we use a blended approach that may include:Google Classroom logo

  • Google Classroom for lessons, resources and communication
  • Live or recorded lessons from class teachers
  • Uploaded worksheets and independent tasks
  • Online platforms pupils already use in school (e.g. Times Tables Rockstars, MyMaths, Oxford Owl)
  • Reading books and resources matched to your child’s level.

We expect pupils to follow their usual timetable as closely as possible, with adaptations where appropriate for age, ability and individual needs.

First Few Days of Remote Learning

If remote learning begins suddenly (e.g. due to bad weather or illness closures):

  • Day 1 may consist of worksheet-based activities
  • From Day 2, teachers will provide a full timetable and resources on Google Classroom
  • Parents will receive guidance on how to support their child’s learning at home.

Feedback & Contact

Teachers will:

  • Provide regular feedback on submitted work
  • Check in on wellbeing and progress
  • Keep in touch via Google Classroom or email.

For longer periods of remote learning, children will also have opportunities for:

  • Virtual assemblies or class check-ins
  • Small group sessions where appropriate
  • Additional support for wellbeing or learning needs.

Access & Support

We want every child to access remote learning successfully. If your family does not have:

  • A suitable device
  • Reliable internet connection.

…please contact us. We will do our best to provide equipment or alternative resources.

Safeguarding & Online Safety

During remote learning, our safeguarding policies and practices remain in place. Pupils are reminded to:

  • Keep logins and personal information private
  • Use technology responsibly and respectfully
  • Speak to a trusted adult if they have concerns online.

Parents can find further guidance on safe internet use either via our safeguarding page or in our Online Safety Policy.

Working Together

We know that remote learning can be challenging for families. We ask parents and carers to:

  • Encourage children to follow the daily timetable
  • Provide a quiet, safe space for learning where possible
  • Communicate with teachers if extra support is needed.

Together, we can ensure that pupils stay connected, motivated and ready to succeed.
