Year 6 National Assessments (SATs)

In Year 6, pupils take part in the Statutory Assessment Tests (SATs), which take place nationally in May. These assessments help measure progress in English and Mathematics and provide useful information to support transition to secondary school.

At Francis Baily Primary School, SATs are approached in a calm, supportive and positive way. Our priority is ensuring pupils feel confident, well-prepared and proud of their achievements.

How we support pupils:

  • SATs preparation is embedded within high-quality daily teaching, rather than taught in isolation
  • Pupils are taught exam techniques, time management and strategies to support confidence
  • A strong focus is placed on wellbeing, resilience and a positive mindset
  • Regular opportunities for practice help pupils feel familiar and comfortable with the format
  • Support is tailored to meet individual needs.

Our Approach:
SATs are one part of a much broader picture. We value children’s creativity, curiosity, character and confidence alongside academic achievement. Our aim is for pupils to leave Year 6 not only prepared for assessments, but ready to thrive in secondary school and beyond.
