Behavioural Expectations

At Francis Baily Primary School, we believe that children learn best in a safe, calm and respectful environment. Our behaviour expectations are rooted in our school values - Care, Explore, Grow.

Our Approach

We focus on:

  • Positive relationships – staff model kindness, fairness and respect
  • Clear routines – consistent expectations help children feel secure
  • Celebrating success – we notice and reward good choices
  • Restorative conversations – helping children reflect on mistakes and put things right.

This approach builds confidence, self-discipline and mutual respect, preparing pupils for life both inside and outside the classroom.

Rewards

We encourage and celebrate positive behaviour through:

  • Verbal praise and recognition
  • Stickers, House Points or certificates
  • Behaviour champions
  • Sharing achievements in class and whole-school assemblies
  • End of year awards.

Consequences

Sometimes children make mistakes. When this happens, we use fair and proportionate consequences, such as:

  • A reminder of expectations
  • Time to reflect and make amends
  • Loss of privileges (e.g. playtime) if behaviour persists.

Serious incidents are dealt with swiftly and in line with our statutory Behaviour Policy. Parents are always kept informed.

Bullying

We take all forms of bullying seriously. Our school is committed to being a safe and inclusive community where bullying is not tolerated. Concerns will always be investigated and addressed promptly, with support for both the child affected and the child displaying bullying behaviour.

Working Together

We believe behaviour is a partnership between school, pupils and parents. Together, we create an environment where children feel secure, respected and ready to learn.
