Your Child's Health
At Francis Baily Primary School, your child’s health and wellbeing are our top priority. We work closely with families to make sure every child feels safe, cared for and supported throughout the school day.
Medical Conditions & Medicines
- Please let us know if your child has any medical needs, allergies or long-term conditions so we can put the right support in place
- If your child requires medicine during the school day, you must complete a Medical Consent Form (below). Medicines must be prescribed, clearly labelled and handed in by an adult
- Staff follow our Supporting Pupils with Medical Conditions Policy to ensure medicines are administered safely.
First Aid in School
- Trained first-aiders are on site at all times
- If your child has a minor injury, we will treat it in school and send an email message home via our Medical Tracker system
- For more serious injuries or illnesses, we will contact you immediately. In an emergency, we will call 999.
Illness in School
If your child becomes unwell during the school day, we will contact you and ask you to collect them. Please ensure we have up-to-date emergency contact details (you can amend your details directly via the My Child at School (MCAS) app.
When to Keep Your Child at Home
It can be tricky to decide whether to keep your child off school when they are unwell. Generally, children should stay at home if they are:
- Vomiting or having diarrhoea (keep at home for 48 hours after the last episode)
- Running a high temperature or having a contagious illness (e.g. chickenpox)
- Unwell enough to take part in normal school activities
If in doubt, please follow the NHS guidance or check with the school office before sending your child in.
Healthy Living
We encourage healthy habits for all pupils:
- Nut-free school – please do not send any nut products in packed lunches or snacks
- Free fruit is provided daily for Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1 children
- Older children may bring a healthy snack for morning break
- Water bottles are encouraged in all classes.
