Pastoral Care & Wellbeing
At Francis Baily Primary School, we believe that children learn best when they feel safe, supported and happy. Alongside academic learning, we place great importance on pupils’ emotional health and wellbeing.
Nurturing Every Child
Each child is supported first and foremost by their class teacher, who looks after both their learning and emotional wellbeing. If a child has a worry, big or small, we encourage them to talk to their teacher or any trusted adult in school. We work hard to ensure that children know who to go to if they need help and that they feel listened to.
We work with families and outside agencies to provide:
- Emotional support for children facing challenges
- Strategies to help pupils build resilience and confidence
- A listening ear for children who need someone to talk to
- Support for families where home and school can work together.
Promoting Wellbeing
We actively promote mental and physical wellbeing through:
- PSHE curriculum – teaching children about feelings, friendships and healthy lifestyles
- Assemblies and workshops – exploring kindness, resilience and respect
- Sport, music and the arts – giving children creative and active outlets.
- Healthy schools approach – encouraging good nutrition, exercise and rest.
Specialist Support
Some children need extra help at different times in their lives — for example, when managing anxiety, coping with separation or bereavement, adjusting to family changes, or building confidence and self-esteem.
At Francis Baily, we work closely with a range of specialists to provide the right support, including:
- Educational psychologists
- Emotional Literacy Support Assistants (ELSA)
- School nurses and health professionals
- External wellbeing and counselling services.
Supporting Families
We recognise that parents and carers play the most important role in their child’s wellbeing. Our team is always here to listen and provide support, whether through advice, signposting services, or working in partnership with other professionals. Please do get in touch if we can help.
