Safeguarding

At Francis Baily Primary School, keeping children safe is our highest priority. Every child has the right to feel secure, valued and respected. Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility, and we work in partnership with families, governors and outside agencies to protect and support our pupils.

Our Commitment

We are committed to:

  • Creating a safe, caring and inclusive environment
  • Protecting children from harm, abuse and neglect
  • Promoting children’s health, safety and wellbeing
  • Acting swiftly if concerns arise.

Safeguarding runs through everything we do, from recruitment and staff training to daily routines, behaviour, curriculum and online safety.

Our Safeguarding Team

Our safeguarding team is here to listen and take action if needed:

  • Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL): Miss Hobbs
  • Deputy DSLs: Mrs Thorogood, Mrs Morely and Mrs Collins
  • Assistant DSL: Mrs Wood
  • Safeguarding Governor: Mrs Burge

If you have any concerns about a child’s safety, please contact a Designated Safeguarding Lead immediately via the school office

Policies & Procedures

Our safeguarding work follows national and local guidance, including Keeping Children Safe in Education (Department for Education) and the West Berkshire Safeguarding Children Partnership. Key policies are:

  • Child Protection & Safeguarding Policy
  • Online Safety Policy
  • Whistleblowing Policy.

All of these can be found on either our policies page or our Trust website.

Online Safety

We teach pupils how to use technology safely and responsibly, but with the internet so readily accessible, the most effective approach to online safety needs everyone involved, including parents and carers.

We are a member of The National College, part of which focusses on keeping children safe online. It gives parents and carers access to a wide range of resources, including courses, explainer videos and online safety guides to support your awareness of the online world. We recommend you download the #WakeUpWednesday app (available from the following app stores) for free practical advice and resources.
