Early Years Foundation Stage
At Francis Baily, we believe that the early years are the foundation for a lifelong love of learning. Our Foundation Stage provision is built around motivating first-hand experiences that foster resilience, ambition and curiosity in every child.
Our Approach
We build on the knowledge and skills children bring with them and work closely with feeder nurseries to support a smooth transition into school. This includes:
- Summer term visits to the classroom
- Stay and play sessions
- Information sharing with nurseries and parents
- Parent/carer tours and welcome events.
We recognise that every child is unique, and celebrating individuality is central to our culture. Our pupil-centred curriculum evolves in response to children’s interests and fascinations.

High-Quality Interactions
At the heart of our approach are meaningful interactions. Our skilled Early Years team knows that conversation during play and exploration builds vocabulary, deepens understanding and extends thinking. These purposeful interactions help every child make strong progress across all areas of learning.
Inspiring Independent Learners
We are passionate about children leading their own learning. Through our whole-school values (Care, Explore & Grow) we introduce a shared language of learning, grounded in the characteristics of effective learning. This helps children reflect on their experiences and talk confidently about how they learn.
