History

Star Icon deplicting the subject History

At Francis Baily, we want all children to be inspired by History so that they are curious about the past, engaged in lessons and able to make meaningful connections between events, people and places across time.

Our Intent

We aim for pupils to:

  • Develop a secure understanding of local, national and global history
  • Build a rich and broad historical vocabulary
  • Make connections across time periods and themes, linking history with geography and other subjects
  • Strengthen their oracy by speaking in full sentences and using precise historical language
  • Access an ambitious and fascinating curriculum that deepens both knowledge and skills.

How We Teach History

Pupils have opportunities to:

  • Study significant people, events and civilisations of Britain and the wider world
  • Explore continuity and change, cause and effect, and similarities and differences
  • Ask thoughtful historical questions and interpret sources of evidence
  • Revisit key vocabulary and concepts across year groups to build long-term understanding
  • Connect their historical learning with geography, citizenship and cultural heritage.

The Impact

Through our History curriculum, children become:

  • Curious learners who enjoy asking questions about the past
  • Critical thinkers who can interpret and evaluate evidence
  • Confident communicators who use accurate historical vocabulary
  • Informed citizens who understand how history shapes the present and future.
