Religious Education

Star Icon deplicting the subject Religious EducationAt Francis Baily, we are committed to providing all pupils with a broad and balanced understanding of different religions and world views. Our RE curriculum encourages curiosity, respect and thoughtful reflection about the beliefs and practices of others, while also giving space for those who hold non-religious world views.

Our Intent

We aim for pupils to:

  • Develop knowledge of a wide range of global religions and non-religious perspectives
  • Recognise both the similarities and differences between belief systems
  • Show respect, tolerance and understanding towards people of all faiths and none
  • Explore the moral and ethical principles that guide different communities
  • Engage in thoughtful discussion and questioning about the world around them.

How We Teach Religious Education

Pupils have opportunities to:

  • Learn about key beliefs, stories and teachings within different faiths
  • Explore the role and significance of places of worship
  • Study important religious festivals and why they are celebrated
  • Compare different practices and consider their meaning for believers
  • Take part in visits, visitors and experiences that bring RE to life.

The Impact

Through our RE curriculum, children become:

  • Respectful learners who value diversity and difference
  • Curious thinkers who can ask thoughtful, critical questions
  • Informed citizens who understand how beliefs influence culture and society
  • Reflective individuals who consider their own values and how to live harmoniously with others.
