Art
At Francis Baily Primary School, we believe that art sparks creativity, curiosity and self-expression. Our Art curriculum inspires children to explore ideas, experiment with materials and develop the confidence to share their work with others.
Our Intent
We want every child to:
- Develop a range of artistic and design skills
- Produce creative, imaginative and functional pieces of work
- Explore their own ideas and record experiences through drawing, painting and making
- Study the work of artists and designers from different times, cultures and traditions
- Build confidence in oracy by talking about and evaluating art in its many forms.
How We Teach Art
Pupils have opportunities to:
- Use a variety of media, such as paint, clay, collage, textiles and digital art
- Learn techniques in drawing, painting, printing, modelling and mixed media
- Reflect on their work, suggest improvements and celebrate progress
- Make cross-curricular links. For example, exploring nature in science through sketching or studying patterns in maths through design
- Take part in school art projects, exhibitions and displays.
The Impact
Through our Art curriculum (see PDF below), children become:
- Confident creators who enjoy making and sharing their work
- Reflective learners who can discuss and evaluate ideas thoughtfully
- Curious explorers inspired by the creativity of others
- Resilient problem-solvers who aren’t afraid to experiment and refine their work.
