Named after the astronomer Francis Baily, our school celebrates curiosity and discovery, and our Science curriculum reflects this spirit. We aim to nurture pupils who are confident to ask questions, investigate ideas and seek evidence, developing the knowledge and skills needed to understand the world today and to shape the world of tomorrow.

Our Intent

We aim for pupils to:

  • Develop a secure understanding of the key areas of biology, chemistry and physics
  • Use practical investigation to explore scientific questions and test ideas
  • Build skills of prediction, observation, analysis and evaluation
  • Learn to communicate findings clearly, using correct scientific vocabulary
  • Make meaningful links between science, everyday life and future opportunities.

How We Teach Science

Children have opportunities to:

  • Take part in hands-on experiments and investigations
  • Learn through practical work, enquiry and problem-solving
  • Study a broad range of scientific concepts in line with the National Curriculum
  • Use scientific equipment safely and accurately
  • Connect science learning to real-world issues, technology and careers
  • Celebrate science through events such as trips, visits and workshops.

Oracy in Science

In line with our school-wide focus on oracy, pupils are encouraged to:

  • Ask thoughtful scientific questions
  • Explain their reasoning in full sentences
  • Present findings and discuss results with peers
  • Use scientific vocabulary accurately and confidently
