Geography
At Francis Baily, we want all children to be inspired by Geography so that they are curious about the world around them, engaged in their lessons and empowered to make connections with their current and future learning.
Our Intent
We aim for pupils to:
- Develop a secure understanding of people, places and environments
- Build a rich and broad geographical vocabulary
- Make meaningful connections across geographical and historical content as they move through school
- Strengthen their oracy by speaking in full sentences, using accurate subject vocabulary
- Explore both local and global contexts, seeing how geography shapes everyday life and the wider world.
How We Teach Geography
Pupils have opportunities to:
- Study physical and human geography across different places and cultures
- Use maps, atlases, globes and digital tools to interpret and present information
- Ask geographical questions, investigate patterns and draw conclusions
- Revisit key vocabulary and knowledge regularly to deepen understanding
- Connect learning across subjects, particularly history, science and citizenship.
The Impact
Through our Geography curriculum, children become:
- Curious learners who enjoy exploring the world around them
- Confident communicators who can use precise geographical vocabulary
- Critical thinkers who make links across subjects and topics
- Informed citizens who understand their role in a changing world.
