Physical Education
At Francis Baily, we believe that physical education is vital for children’s health, wellbeing and personal development. Our PE curriculum provides opportunities for every pupil to be active, stay healthy, build skills and enjoy sport both in and out of school.
Our Intent
We aim for pupils to:
- Develop fundamental skills in movement, coordination and balance
- Build confidence in a range of individual and team sports
- Understand the importance of physical activity for lifelong health
- Show resilience, teamwork and fair play in competitive and non-competitive settings
- Experience a broad and balanced programme that inspires enjoyment of sport and fitness.
How We Teach PE
Pupils have opportunities to:
- Take part in two hours of PE each week, covering games, dance, gymnastics, athletics and outdoor adventures
- Learn a range of sports with trained staff
- Use our school facilities for active play and physical development
- Compete in intra-school (house) competitions and wider Trust or local sporting events
- Develop skills progressively through sequenced lessons and revisiting key techniques.
Enrichment Opportunities
Sport and physical activity extend beyond lessons through:
- Extracurricular clubs such as football, netball, athletics and dance
- Interschool competitions and festivals
- Participation in Trust-wide sporting events
- Opportunities for leadership, such as sports captains and house competitions.
The Impact
Through our PE curriculum, children become:
- Active learners who value health and fitness
