PSHE

Star Icon deplicting the subject Personal, Social, Health and Economic educationAt Francis Baily, we believe that personal development is just as important as academic success. Our Personal, Social, Health and Economic education (PSHE) curriculum helps children to develop the knowledge, skills and values they need to thrive in life, learning and relationships.

Our Intent

We aim for pupils to:

  • Build self-confidence, resilience and a strong sense of identity
  • Learn how to keep themselves healthy and safe, both physically and emotionally
  • Develop respect, empathy and understanding of others
  • Explore relationships, responsibilities and rights in age-appropriate ways
  • Prepare for life in modern Britain by understanding diversity, equality and democracy.

How We Teach PSHE

Pupils take part in weekly lessons that cover six key themes across the year:

  1. My School & Community – belonging, responsibilities and values
  2. We Are All Unique – diversity, acceptance and respect
  3. Reach for the Stars – aspirations, resilience and achievement
  4. Nourish & Flourish – physical and mental health, healthy choices
  5. Building Connections – friendships, family, love and loss
  6. Growing Up – growing up, puberty and preparation for change.

Each unit includes opportunities for reflection, discussion and collaboration, supporting both oracy and emotional literacy.

Relationships, Sex & Health Education (RSHE)

The teaching of RSHE meets statutory requirements. Parents are informed in advance of lessons covering sensitive topics, and we welcome open dialogue with families.

The Impact

Through our PSHE curriculum, children become:

  • Confident individuals with a strong sense of self-worth
  • Caring and respectful friends who value diversity and difference
  • Responsible citizens ready to contribute positively to society
  • Resilient learners who can cope with challenges and changes.
